About Us
Mission
The SENC Herbal Conference is a project of the Southeastern North Carolina Herbal Collective, Inc. A 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to growing the herbalism community in Southeastern North Carolina. Join us for our 3rd Annual event in 2026 where local herbalists and the herbal-curious come together for a weekend of celebration, education and community. Surround yourself with other passionate, enthusiastic people who are excited to learn from one another and celebrate the rich ecosystem we call home.
Vision
Working with plants and medicinal herbs makes it impossible to ignore our interconnectedness with the web of life. We have all come (and are coming) to herbalism from different places and different perspectives, but regardless of what initially drew us to working with plants, we are all connected by our interdependence with all living things. By empowering our community to take responsibility for their individual roles in the greater system, we work to create an environment that is regenerative, rather than extractive – and we build a world where all can thrive. Celebrating, sharing, and encouraging the relationships we all have with each other (people, plants and animals) is a win for all!.
Values
Supported by a team of volunteers, the SENC Herbal Conference is driven by the desire to create a lasting positive impact on our local community. With experienced teachers to provide instruction on how to work with medicinal plants, compassionate leaders to host collective spaces, and earth-centric vendors to support local economies, the event will leave participants feeling connected, inspired, and equipped to continue supporting their community’s health – physically, emotionally, and economically. Herbalism is activism by way of life!
Safety & Inclusivity for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ Conference attendees
The event space, farm owners, and volunteers are all very committed to fostering and enforcing a safe and inclusive space for people of all races, genders, and sexual orientations. As the Board of Directors, we’re so grateful that the family who owns the farm is personally committed to this as well!
What this means in practice and logistics:
- We vet all teachers for past teaching history and aim to ensure presenters use non-harmful and inclusive language.
- We strive to hire a diverse group of teachers across race and sexual orientation.
- Due to the size of the farm, we are unable to offer all-gender bathrooms. The bathrooms onsite offer a men’s/women’s stalls side by side, but participants are encouraged to self-select bathrooms and throughout the weekend the bathrooms generally end up as all-gender across both rooms due to capacity and line flow!
For BIPOC or queer owned/vocally inclusive businesses in the area, some favorites are:

- Hi-wire Brewing
There’s many more, but these are the ones the SENC Herbal Conference Board of Directors know of for sure that are queer/BIPOC owned and/or make a loud effort to advertise safety and inclusivity.
